Founders get this backwards

In brief
Founders get this backwards. I did too. Nobody tells you the real cost of 'looking credible.' It isn't money. It's the hours you burn polishing instead of saying the one true thing out loud. Two years ago I thought site, portfolio, case studies, the works.

I did too.

Two years ago I thought site, portfolio, case studies, the works. That was the job. And it worked! Right up until it didn't.
The founders who booked out weren't the ones who looked the best. They were the ones who felt the most real.
One client doing $18k months had a landing page you'd laugh at. No funnel diagram. She said 'here's what we do and here's what we don't' in about nine words. Her inbox stayed full.
Meanwhile I was on my third rewrite of a hero header nobody would read twice.
What builds trust isn't polish. It's a pattern someone can feel in about thirty seconds - how you talk about the work, whether you name the hard part, whether you say the number plainly instead of hedging it.
I still catch myself reaching for the fancier word. Old habit 🤷 but every time I pick the plainer one the reply rate goes up. Not always. But enough that it stopped feeling like a coincidence.
Still not sure how much of this is craft and how much is just being a person.
Comment TRUST GAP CHECKLIST and I'll send back the small thing I run before I touch a single line of copy on my own page.
